Festival of 1000 Bikes

Mallory Park 14th / 15th July 2007

A very good day for the GSOC on Saturday with bright sunshine and great company. A marquee was already set up and gave plenty of room for members to store helmets etc and show off their bikes. There was also room for regalia sales and membership services to show what was on offer.

A roaring trade in tea, coffee, biscuits and at intervals sausage and bacon rolls meant the marquee was kept busy for not only members but also interested parties looking around as well as just thirsty and hungry passers by. Donations in the hat given by all meant costs could be easily covered.

Ron & Anne, Malc & myself, Betty (of Stratford onion fame) as well as many other members including Mick Johnson, Darren Hobson, George Wander, Ray and Ken Griffiths were working hard to keep all - comers informed and interested in the Club.

15 members took advantage of track time during the weekend and all returned safe and well - not the same could be said for the bikes, some of which did mis-behave but no real mishaps occurred and all said that they enjoyed it.

The evening saw 21 people sit down to a meal cooked by head chef Chairman Ron May assisted by Anne along with Graham & Betty Geeves. A great evening, lots of new friends made again with very diverse conversations around the table, also a fabulous sunset to watch - is summer really here?

Well, no!! Sunday began very wet which was a real dampener (no pun intended) probably giving a lot of people reason not to come which was unfortunate. However, some braved the elements - Goldie John from Norfolk, a very early 4am start to come the 175 miles, John Birchall (Head Cod from Notts) with Dave Caron, Tony Tideswell and Dave Ramsay from North Lincs. Many others came and made themselves known to us, sorry if I haven't mentioned you all by name. Thanks to those who renewed their membership, we also welcomed four new members.

Anne did a great trade in regalia and we also had on sale the book - "History of the Clubmans TT" by Fred Pidcock & Bill Snelling - it sold very well and further copies are available from Anne at £19.99 plus postage. A really good day despite the weather and can you believe it - as the day came to an end the sun came out to play!!!

Thanks to all who came along - the Goldie Club was certainly noticed at Mallory.
